Weddings & off camera flash Workshop
It is with a huge sense of excitement that I announce our first visit to the stunning Stubton Hall, with full access to the 25 bedrooms, 4 reception rooms with adjoining terraces, an Orangery and 23 acres of enchanting park and gardens our backdrop is extensive.
Your day with me in such a wonderful venue will be a day creating beautiful and timeless images to grace your portfolio while injecting your photography toolbox with useful tips and techniques.
A perfect spring board into 2019!
The following list highlights the basic agenda for the day and we promise you will leave the day with a head full of new ideas and concepts and a memory card full of stunning wedding and portrait imagery.
- How to use flash, on & off camera while looking at daylight ambient.
- Lighting the little details to cake and first dance lighting
- Using reflectors to lift the shadows and add tone.
- Couple posing and adding intimacy into portraits.
- How to produce breathtaking images that can very often allude us.
- Techniques for getting the best out of the most camera adverse clients.
- Using flash on location utilising location, colour & posing.
- Finding and executing the most unusual of backdrops for those difficult weddings.
- Using speed lights with small pop up soft boxes to high power flash.
- Using backgrounds that you never thought of before in places you thought unusable.
- A great day to learn all you can about using flash to light up and wow your weddings.
- Coping with the ambiance inside for couple shots.
- Elinchrom ELB, Quadra & Ranger and Speed-lights with various modifiers will light our day….
This workshop is aimed at photographers of all abilities and levels from the enthusiast beginner to well established and seasoned wedding photographers. Our goal is to assist you in getting to grips with the technical side of using light, both natural and flash, but more importantly how to infuse your images with heart and soul.
Portraits should be packed with emotion and during your day shooting with us you will learn how to get the best from your subject using skilful direction, subtle posing, camera technique and the all important lighting that can lift those dull and flat winter wedding pictures. The day will teach you the art of the picture from its concept to realisation.
We will use the stunning surroundings of Stubton Hall to the full and create sublime images, both inside and out of the house. We will begin the day with a short classroom introduction to off camera flash and then move into portraits with natural and then reflected light.
You will see how to make to the most of every shutter click, how to get the best out of your subjects while maximising each pose and set up. As the day progresses we will use and look for beautiful ambient light to create drama and contrast in the images, we will teach you how and where to use simple one light flash setups to drive depth and vibrancy into your portraits.
After a day shooting with us you will feel enthused and ready to put the new techniques and ideas to work in your own weddings and portraits, what better way could there be to spend a Friday in February.
The day is long on photography and short on waffle, I strongly believe the best way to learn is by making images and working with your camera, not listening to lectures – this is a ‘hands on’ course.
I also believe in a relaxed fun atmosphere – so come prepared to laugh and really enjoy the day. Full instructions including details of all local hotels along with directions to Stubton Hall are provided in your welcome email.

Another outstanding day of photography arranged by James Davies at Rossington Hall. James not only shows and explains the technical side of his style of photography but goes beyond the camera which we sometimes forget about. His ” this is how I do it” approach is delivered in an energetic and fun atmosphere from the minute you arrive until you leave for home leaving you inspired and motivated. If you are serious about photography and are looking to develop your skills then visit http://www.jdaviesphotography.co.uk/ and check out his training pages, you won’t be disappointed.

A fantastic day of training at Hodsock Priory with James and Doug. The models were very friendly and professional, and James was on hand to direct everyone and to show them how he approaches his portraits during a wedding day with natural light and various flash techniques. I definitely recommend this workshop to anyone wanting to take their skill set to the next level.
Hi James, Thanks for an excellent interesting course and day out last Friday. Good to meet proper people of a similar interest and be able to communicate freely. Your personal approach to the photography business is what prompted me to attend and your laid back non-conventional way of working really fits in with my personal lifestyle. My first wedding shoot on Saturday went really well, minimum amount of scrapped images – Hope to meet you again in the not so far future. Alan
Hi James A huge thank you for a wonderful day at Rossington Hall the other week. The day was just great from start to finish. The models were really accommodating and the venue was just perfect. Ange and I are very excited about our new business together.
Hi James, Just a big thankyou for last Friday at Rossington Hall I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot. I was a little apprehensive about going thinking I may be overwhelmed by the other photographers there but this was not the case I felt quite at ease and took a lot in, whether it will stay there we shall have to see! All the best and thanks again
